About the Wyoming Stock Growers Association

Established April 4, 1872, the Wyoming Stock Growers Association (WSGA) was formed to advance and protect the interests of Wyoming’s livestock producers.

It holds the distinction of being the second state cattlemen’s organization established in the United States—and the first association formed in the Wyoming Territory.

For over 150 years, WSGA has remained dedicated solely to serving the state’s cattle industry, which continues to be the largest segment of Wyoming’s agricultural production.

"The mission of the Wyoming Stock Growers Association is to serve the livestock business and families of Wyoming by protecting their economic, legislative, regulatory, judicial, environmental, custom, and cultural interests."

What We Do

As the cattle industry evolves, WSGA continues to bring a fresh approach to both age-old challenges and new opportunities—always with the goal of ensuring the strength and sustainability of Wyoming ranching. We actively:

  • Lobby and monitor legislation at both the state and federal levels

  • Collaborate with state and federal agencies that develop industry regulations

  • Participate in key litigation that impacts Wyoming ranchers

  • Promote a positive public image of the cattle industry

 Our Mission In Action

  • WSGA advances the interests of Wyoming’s cattle industry through proactive lobbying at both the state and national levels. Our volunteer leadership and experienced staff work closely with elected officials, government agencies, and allied organizations to promote sound policy and defend the ranching way of life.

  • To strengthen our influence, we collaborate with other Wyoming agricultural organizations and interest groups who share common ground with us. These partnerships are vital in addressing broad issues that impact our members.

  • WSGA maintains a dedicated legal fund to support, initiate, or defend litigation on issues critical to our members' operations. This fund is supported entirely through voluntary contributions and ensures our ability to stand strong when legal action is necessary.

  • Our Political Action Committee, WSGA-AGPAC, supports the election of Wyoming legislators who align with our values and priorities. Funded by non-deductible contributions from members and supporters, AGPAC plays a key role in shaping ag policy by backing candidates who understand the importance of ranching in our state.

  • WSGA believes strongly in educating the public about the role of ranching in Wyoming. Through radio and television campaigns, we highlight ranchers’ commitment to animal care, land stewardship, and providing safe, nutritious food for consumers.

  • We’re committed to cultivating future leaders in agriculture. WSGA supports 4-H, FFA, and the Wyoming L.E.A.D. program, which equips young producers with leadership training and advocacy skills. Each year, we also award scholarships to Wyoming students pursuing degrees in agriculture-related fields.
